The magic of moving images is a vital part of documenting memories in an Indian wedding. The WPAI Wedding Video Awards have been designed to showcase your work in front of your peers and judges who are masters in their field. It allows you to demonstrate your work in front of the toughest critiques in India today. WPAI Wedding Video Awards aim to recognise not just excellent wedding filmmakers, but all the critical roles in the team involved in telling a wedding story in the most visually appealing way. The winners will be recognised within the community for their commitment to their craft. WPAI Awards are open for members and non-members both.
WPAI Awards judges are masters of filmmaking and are invited from across various genres to form a collective jury that represents some of the best talents in the world today. These judges have, in the course of their careers, spent a lot of energy helping younger artists discover their potential and grow their craft. As a WPAI judge, these masters will collectively review the entries sent as part of the contest.
Badal Jain started his career as a cameraperson with NDTV and spent a couple of years freelancing before he finally decided to move into wedding filmmaking along with his brother 16 years ago. His company has shot 500+ weddings world over including of well-known celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Esha Deol, and Gautam Gambhir to name a few. He has been featured on CNBC as Young Turks with his brother Raja, and other publications like Forbes India, People, and the Wall Street Journal.
“Nothing is ever lost to us, as long as we remember it.” That’s his zeal to present his artistic way of storytelling. Amongst the forerunners for Wedding Filmmaking in India, Vishal’s work was the first Indian wedding film to enter an international film festival, way back in 2013. Since then, he has scaled great heights, having shot the most elite around the world and setting an example for young wedding filmmakers in India.
Born and raised in New York City’s West Village, Francesco found himself captivated by his father’s work in film. His self-taught approach helped shape his artistic style and desire to refine the art of digital filmmaking, constantly pushing boundaries and reinventing the craft. Francesco’s inherent talent and unique aesthetic are reflected in every project, clearly standing apart from the industry standard. His clientele includes Eva Longoria, Chelsea Clinton and many more!
Mili was born in Africa, graduated from Canada and moved to Chicago in 2003 to set off both on a career and marriage. She kick-started her filmmaking career with short films and documentaries. In the wedding industry, she has been a vital part of shooting hundreds of the most extravagant affairs including the performances of Bollywood stars, or singers like Shakira, Akon and Adnan Sami rocking the stage. She is known to be a dedicated artist with a great eye for the right shot!
WPAI Awards are a recognition and rewarding system, that recognises excellence in Indian Wedding Filmmaking. These awards will set a gold standard in wedding film-making and help set the benchmark for quality in the years to come. Winning a WPAI award is a testament to the creator’s skill in storytelling and visualisation. WPAI Awards are awarded to individuals forming a filmmaking team (and not just the studio/ producer) i.e. all those involved in executing a film, whom our judges deem exceptional in their originality and/or execution.
WPAI Filmmaker Award
The category awards achievement in the overall execution of the film/trailer. This film/trailer will be rated on overall performance across all category parameters, especially cinematography, editing, music and sound, and visual effects. The winner of this award will go to the director/producer of the film/trailer and the studio that made it.
Sennheiser Sound Award
The Best Sound Award will be awarded to the film/trailer exhibiting the finest or most aesthetic sound design or sound editing. The award category focusses on elements such as location sound, ambient sound, sound mixing, foley, music, and any other element added in the film/trailer to enhance sound quality. This category awards the overall soundscape of the film/trailer. This award will go to the Sound Engineer / Editor who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio that made it.
Editor Award
Described by Vanity Fair as “the art of putting together a film so seamlessly you never notice it”, film editing involves the art and technique of shot selection, assembling and placing them together in a coherent sequence. The Editor Award recognises films/trailers where the editing process has created meaning, understanding and emotions. The award will go to the Editor who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio who produced it.
Director of Photography Award
The category awards the cinematographer of the film/trailer with the most visually appealing and creative camera work. It includes everything that can be done with a camera – it’s movement and momentum, the play of light in images, and the visuals it captures. The award will go to the (lead) DOP who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio who produced it.
Visual Effects Award
This category recognises the most outstanding visual effects in a wedding film/trailer. It can include special/creative effects (morphs, split screens) to smoothen transitions, create drama or enhanced graphics in a film/trailer. The award will go to the VFX artist who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio who produced it.
Who can enter?
WPAI Awards are open to ALL i.e. members and non-members. In addition, you need to be the original content creator to submit for awards. For example, if you are applying for the “Sound Award”, you need to be the final intellectual property owner of the film/trailer (in most cases, the producer). If you are part of the team who worked on the film/trailer, please encourage the owner of the film/trailer to apply on your behalf. The award in these cases will be both for the technician working on the film/trailer as well as the studio. Please see category information for more details on this.

When do the submissions open, and when is the deadline for entries?

Who Can Enter?
Submissions for the awards are open to all wedding-related businesses based within India. Each submission requires a submission fee of Rs. 999/- (after using three free entries in case of WPAI members)
Do I need to be nominated by someone?
No, companies or individuals submit their own work – the main awards are based on judging criteria from our judges, not nominations.
Can I submit more than once?
Yes, you can submit more than once for a category, or for multiple applicable categories. Each submission must be done separately with its own completed form and the submission fee paid.
I am making multiple entries; do I need to fill out the form every time?
No, all of the form data that you enter with your company details will be held in a cookie on your computer. As long as you use the same web browser and do not clear out your cookies, your company data will populate the form.
I am a wedding industry professional, but I don’t see my category listed, what could I do?
We are currently considering new categories. We would love to hear from you with your suggestions. Please get in touch to let us know your thoughts.
How do the judges score the entries?
The judging panel will be judging each of the entries and awarding scores for several areas based on a range of criteria. The judges will not have access to the names of the companies for each submission to avoid any bias scoring.
Will I be able to find out my score?
No, entrants will not be able to have access to their score from the judges. However, the winner and finalists for each category will be made public.
How do I enter?
To enter, simply visit the contest page on our website and then fill out the appropriate details.
I am interested in knowing exactly how the scoring is being done, is this information available?
Scoring by the judges will be based on five separate areas; aesthetics, themes, originality, professionalism and quality. Each of the judges will review all of the information provided from a company (except for their name and contact details) and then score the submission in each of the five separate areas.
